Another morning... another roof tent. 

This morning saw us fit a Darche Hi View 1600 Roof Tent to a Land Rover Defender 90 TDCI. The customer requested the roof tent to open up off the rear of the vehicle. Fitting to a Front Runner Slimline II roof rack and using a Front Runner Tent Mount Kit (Tall Version) the fitting sounded fairly straight forward. Once placed on the vehicle, it became clear that the tent would foul on the already installed Front Runner awning. To get around this we trimmed each side of the roof tent mounting channels down by 200mm. By doing this we gave an additional estimated 20mm of clearance over the awning which was enough to allow easy access to both the awning and tent. 

Once placed back on the rack, we started the fixing process using the sliding brackets and bolts. At this point we realised that the holes in the tent mount kit were about 5mm out from the width of the mounting channels. We slackened the mounting kit from the rack and then moved the tent into position before slotting the bolts through the holes in the tent mount kit. A quick tighten up of both the tent bolts and the mounting kit bolts and the tent was fitted.
